What is The Future of SAP S/4HANA? Will IT Replace SAP ABAP?
WHAT IS SAP S/4 HANA?
SAP S/4HANA is the short form of SAP Business Suite 4 SAP HANA. It is the fourth version of SAP Business Suite, but it varies from its predecessors since it is designed to run on SAP HANA. SAP
S/4HANA was intended to be easy to use and simpler to administer while assisting users to solve more difficult problems and process huge amounts of data than earlier SAP ERP and R/3 releases.
WHAT IS SAP ABAP?
ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming) is a programming language that runs in the SAP ABAP runtime environment, created and used by SAP for the development of
application programs including:
- Reports
- Module Pool Programming
- Interfaces
- Forms
- Data conversions
- User Exits and BADI
WILL SAP S/4 HANA REPLACE SAP ABAP?
S/4HANA (SAP Business Suite 4 SAP HANA) is being introduced by SAP as the new suite of business applications. All the accessible applications (like the traditional ERP “modules” like MM, SD, FI, etc. as well as the latest ones like TM, EWM, will be increasingly introduced on the S/4 HANA platform).
The main changes in S/4HANA would be in the database (in-memory computing) and it’s UX (User Experience). There are some functional changes that you would notice (rearrangement
functionalities between applications). When it comes to ABAP, it will still steer SAP as it does today. Like all programming languages, it will develop with time. Of course with the introduction of SAP S/4HANA, an ABAP coder will have to adapt – use new features such as ABAP learn to restrict implicit enhancements, scripts to make use of the new database technology and database commits, but that should be a fair migration.
